(Q) I am a 44 year old
who is physically active with many familial and business
responsibilities. Is there anything I can do to prevent
foot problems?
(A) Preventative measures
for those of us who are approaching or who have reached
middle age can sometimes be futile. However, my recommendation
is that you utilize as many of the preventative measures
as possible to help minimize or even prevent future problems.
Some of these measures include good foot hygiene, stretching
before and after any physical activities, appropriate supportive
shoe gear and even custom-made orthotics when medically
necessary. While all of these measures are proven in medical
literature to prevent or minimize problems, there are still
no guarantees that you will prevent any and all future problems.
